I just want all my followers to know that I think you are all very beautiful and deserve to love yourselves. Your flaws are a part of what makes you, you and because of that they are very special. So if you are having a bad day, I hope it gets better. If you are having a good day, I hope it gets better too. I want you to be so happy because you are so important. Just please remember to always love yourself, because I really care about each and every one of you!
It really bothers me when people play off Nagisa and Rei’s importance in helping Haru throughout the series. A lot of people give all the credit for “saving” Haru to Makoto, and I just saw someone say that only Makoto could save Haru because “no one else knew Haru well enough to know what to do.”
Uh…what? No one else knew Haru well enough to know what to do? Really? So I guess it means nothing that when Haru was sulking by himself, Nagisa was the one who pulled him back outside to watch the races. It was Nagisa, Rei and Gou who asked Haru to do the relay with them. It was Rei who knew that Haru needed to swim with Rin and gave up his spot on the relay. When Haru was saying “it made him just as happy” he was thinking about the entire team, not just Makoto.
I’m not saying Makoto isn’t an important friend for Haru. Saying no one else knew what to do when it came to helping him is just wrong though. Don’t just ignore Nagisa, Rei and even Gou.
Preach it. I love Makoto and Haru’s friendship, but seriously Makoto alone wasn’t enough to help Haru’s character development, and that’s exactly because ‘he understands Haru so much’ that he doesn’t want to push him outside of his boundaries to not make him uncomfortable. Except that was exactly what Haru needed in the series!
Seriously I’m so pissed at people who downplay Nagisa’s importance to the story, especially. The swimming club wouldn’t have ever existed if it wasn’t for him!
But Rei and Gou are just as important, of course.
I mean if Gou hadn’t secretely registered them for that relay, then they wouldn’t have won anything at sectionals and Haru would’ve gone home and stayed depressed forever because Rin didn’t want to swim with him anymore.
Rei and Haru had a particular connection too and Haru went out of his way because of Rei a couple of times, first to teach him how to swim, and after that, to tell him what happened between him and Rin, which he hadn’t told ANYONE before (Makoto figured out on his own). Then there’s also that awesome act of unselfishness Rei did in the finale, which shouldn’t be forgotten.
BUT STILL, if Nagisa especially hadn’t been there to shake things up, Haru would still be sitting in his bathtub. Let’s not forget that!
